About My Interest In Psychology

After reading all about the different branches of psychology the branch the interests me the most is Comparative Psychology. I find comparative psychology the most interesting because it is focused on animal behavior. The highest amount of education needed for this field of study would be a doctorate, but can be done with a bachelors degree and a masters degree. Most people who work in this field of psychology choose a certain species to specialize in like cats or dogs. Some careers include animal behaviorists, ethologists, and a professor. Some important people that rooted comparative psychology are Charles Darwin and Georges Romanes.
Comparative Psychology draws me in and interests me because it is concerned with the study of animal behavior. I love animals and I love learning about them and my ultimate career goal is to work with them in any way, shape, or form. Comparative psychology opens up new pathways in which my later education and career goals could go.

About Me

Hi I'm Rachel Dugan. I'm 19 years old and I'm a freshman. Some things that someone might notice about me is that I have really long hair and my sporty, casual style. Here on campus I'm and officer in the HSSM Research Society and I'm a student-athlete on the softball team, and I wear the jersey number 44. I don't live here on campus because I am front the Abilene area. I live in Clyde with my mom and all of my pets. I also have a 17 year old brother named Jonah, but he lives five minutes away with my dad. I also have a boyfriend and his name is Kheland. I claim the two small dogs and the cat as my pets. We also have two large dogs that mostly stay out with the cattle and three horses. I met my best friend here the first week of last semester and we got to know one another and have been besties ever since. My best friend from high school moved to Wichita Falls to attend Midwestern State and we don't see or talk to one another as much as we used to but when we do we pick right up where we left off and it's like we were never apart.
I am a quiet person until you get to know me and I become comfortable with you. I like to do things on my own and I don't mind being alone. In my free time I love to read, watch movies, and watch TV shows. I read mostly fiction novels and online articles and occasionally books about animals. I like to listen and that something that someone might not notice about me until they are around me. Two words that I would use to describe me are passionate and kind. I really enjoy traveling with my family. I've been to lots of different places including some outside of the U.S. My favorite trip was with my mom and brother and we visited Nova Scotia, Canada where my mother is from.
I would like to earn a degree in Biology and study animals and possibly attend vet school. Whether I go to vet school or not I would like to work with animals because I am very passionate about them and their well-being whether in a medical setting or not. Being passionate about animals is something that people don't usually see until they know me. I used to work at the Abilene Zoo and I only worked as a Guest Service and Ride Operator, but I absolutely loved being close to the animals and being able to see them everyday.
